Personalized Reading Instruction and Intervention

How is Reading Instruction different from Reading Intervention?

Reading Instruction involves the teacher creating a personalized reading lesson plan for a student. The reading plan is built upon the B.E.S.T. Reading Standards for Florida and last for a semester. This type of course is best for home-schooled students.

Reading Intervention identifies gaps in a student’s reading ability and works to fill in those gaps. Students and teacher work together to “unpack” current reading expectations either from Public School, Private/Charter School, or Home School.

Reading Instruction

$1,890 per semester

In-person and meeting 3 times a week, each 60-minute session will address components of literacy instruction:  phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, word-analysis, and comprehension.

Fast paced and multi-sensory, the lessons build a firm foundation in reading over the course of 14 weeks, giving the student the tools they need to become a fluent reader.

There are 3 different courses:

  • Emergent Reading (typically ages 4 - 5)

  • Beginning reader (typically ages 5 - 7)

  • Reading to Learn (typically ages 7 and up)

Important Note: A reading assessment is conducted prior to enrolling in any of at the courses to determine placement.

Courses are capped at 3 students.

Reading Intervention

$100 per session

Ideal for elementary students who may be struggling with certain concepts of reading, this is an in-person session where students learn to “close the gap” in their reading skills or learn new skills to address reading disabilities, such as dyslexia.

After a preliminary evaluation, targeted learning goals are created for the student based on grade-level reading tasks from FLDOE’s B.E.S.T. standards using the Florida Reading Initiative (FRI) framework for reading. Sessions are 60-minutes and meet once a week.

Reading Evaluations

$200 per evaluation

Diagnostic of Reading (DAR) evaluates current reading ability of a student for grades 1 - 12. Covers all domains of literacy instruction. This evaluation is used to determine a child’s grade level reading ability.

Diebels evaluates current reading ability of a student grades K-12. Covers phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency components of literacy instruction. This evaluation used to establish child’s fluency and decoding abilities.

Dyslexia Screener evaluates for characteristics of dyslexia using rapid automatized naming tasks, fluency, and pseudo-word decoding tasks. The evaluation is a source of data a parent can present to a medical doctor to begin the process of diagnosis if they suspect a reading disability.
